Strong Medical Insights Create Better Products
While the research around cannabis, hemp, and CBD is still quite nascent, we are seeing it grow. Efficacy and transparency are critical to our process and mission: we wouldn’t sell a product without feeling comfortable using it on ourselves or our families. We’ve partnered with the right researchers and medical professionals who are performing clinical trials so that we can better understand how cannabis interacts with the body. This has been absolutely integral to our product development strategy and to building trust, transparency, and adoption.
In this pursuit, we’ve learned the importance of building relationships with the medical community. So we’ve partnered with the Wholistic Research & Education Foundation (Wholistic). This partnership gives us an opportunity to support Wholistic through funding essential clinical evidence from multidisciplinary trials conducted at academic research institutes and making the results available to the public. We augment these results with real-world data collection efforts to formulate the best possible products, and to educate consumers with objective health outcome data.
Wholistic is a 501(c)3 public non-profit dedicated to exploring the health benefits of cannabis and hemp through the funding of both clinical and scientific research. Led by President and Co-founder, Pelin Thorogood, Wholistic has a Medical Advisory Committee that has been instrumental in Wholistic’s efforts, including world-renowned doctors, scientists, researchers, and policy experts.Wholistic uses a venture philanthropy approach to make strategic investments by taking an active role with its partners’ operations. The foundation deploys funding to the most pressing projects and facilitating multi-site and multidisciplinary studies, which explore the underlying mechanisms of action for cannabis efficacy. The evidence-based data is then used for education and health advocacy.
In line with our mission to advance the public’s understanding of how and why CBD can benefit certain health conditions, Wholistic has already embarked on multiple groundbreaking CBD efficacy studies. Wholistic has successfully funded the largest private medicinal cannabis research in U.S. history, donating $4.7M for “Investigating Cannabinoids in Autism Spectrum Disorders” with UC San Diego, in addition to $740,000 for Brain Effects of Cannabinoids” with the University of Utah.
We are also thrilled about Wholistic’s most recent study, the first of its kind exploratory survey on CBD efficacy in reducing anxiety, to be conducted by University of California, Irvine (UCI), in partnership with UC Institute for Prediction Technology (UCIPT). The Cannabinoid Anxiety Relief Education Study (C.A.R.E.S.) consists of tens of thousands of CBD and cannabis users across the United States is intended to assess the potential role of cannabinoids in reducing anxiety and other co-morbid conditions, such as insomnia and depression. Due to COVID-19 high anxiety levels have soared nationwide, rendering this large-scale research study especially timely and relevant.
The various research initiatives we are supporting seek to determine dose, frequency, timing of use, and delivery methods that provide the most therapeutic benefit for specific indications. Additionally these studies explore the underlying mechanisms of action that may explain how hemp and CBD deliver their diverse benefits and personalized effects.
